REYKJAVÍK, Iceland – March 18, 2026 – CCP Games today launched a major update for EVE Online: Catalyst, continuing the game’s ongoing ship balance iteration with targeted changes that keep New Eden’s ecosystem dynamic while strengthening its long-term health. Focused on clearer ship roles, stronger risk-versus-reward dynamics, and greater strategic diversity across PvP and PvE, the update builds on the Catalyst expansion’s features while laying the groundwork for the upcoming Gallente Presidential Election starting tomorrow, March 19, 2026.
“For over two decades, EVE Online has thrived as a living universe shaped by its players,” said Bergur Finnbogason, Creative Director for EVE Online. “This major update for the Catalyst expansion continues our commitment to keeping New Eden dynamic and sustainable. By sharpening ship roles, refining the capital meta, and introducing new high-risk opportunities for ambitious capsuleers, we’re reinforcing the player-driven sandbox that enables the EVE universe to continue to evolve alongside its community.”

Key features of the Catalyst major update include targeted changes to ship bonuses, modules, and fitting stats designed to reduce dominant strategies and encourage more diverse fleet compositions across New Eden:
Black Ops Battleship Refinements: Black Ops ships reworked as ambush-focused predators with increased offensive power and reduced defensive buffer to reinforce a strike-and-withdraw playstyle.
Force Auxiliary Improvements: New capacitor stability bonuses improve the reliability of Force Auxiliary capital ships during extended fleet engagements.
Carrier Combat Enhancements: Increased fighter damage strengthens carriers’ battlefield presence and combat impact.
Carrier CRAB Beacon: Introduction of a new high-risk, high-reward PvE activity designed specifically for capital-class pilots.
Triglavian and SOCT Ship Tuning: Balance adjustments to the Triglavian Zirnitra and select SOCT ships to better align cost with battlefield role and encourage more varied dreadnought fleets.
Force Projection Changes: Adjustments to long-range mobility mechanics, including Drifter wormholes, to preserve strategic depth while reducing overly convenient travel across New Eden.
Pochven Activity Rebalance: Reward distribution and site pacing updates designed to encourage greater participation, conflict, and sustained activity in the region.
Beyond the gameplay updates, the Catalyst major update also sets the stage for a new player-driven political moment in New Eden. The Gallente Presidential Election, running from March 19 to April 16, invites capsuleers to influence the future of the Gallente Federation through a four-week in-game campaign event. The Gallente election highlights a core tenet of EVE Online: empowering players to shape New Eden’s political and economic future.

Capsuleers will choose between three candidates – Soraya Roden, Lucas Tenzin, and Alix Moreau – and support their campaign through seasonal challenges and activities. By completing objectives across existing gameplay and new event content, players earn Seasonal Points that advance a progression track tied to their chosen candidate. The election results will set the stage for the next chapter of New Eden’s unfolding narrative.
